Overview

Discover a world of creativity through our stop-motion animation classes, where students also explore the fundamentals of photography, design, and filmmaking in one unique class. From storyboarding and set design to animating characters, recording voice-overs, and adding sound effects, they’ll gain hands-on experience bringing stories to life. Using everyday materials like clay, toys, and household objects, students will learn how to capture unique perspectives and ignite their imaginations. Join us for an inspiring adventure that nurtures creativity, fosters confidence, and celebrates the art of storytelling!
Our instructors are award-winning teaching artists who have taught arts and filmmaking for over a decade. They've worked with students of all ages at numerous Bay Area institutions, including Juana Briones and El Carmelo Elementary Schools, Synapse School, EPACENTER Arts, Boys & Girls Clubs, and the Palo Alto Art Center.

What will students learn in this class?

Students will work in pairs using iPads and learn:
• Camera operation and compositional techniques
• Prop and character design using fruits, clay, toys, Legos, recycled materials, and household objects
• Different types of stop-motion animation
• Visual storytelling
• Basic sound recording and editing

All skills are taught through fun, hands-on activities.
Children learn the techniques naturally while creating their own animations.

What equipment does my child need?

Nothing! We provide everything your child will need, including iPads and art materials. There’s no need to bring anything from home.

Where are the classes located?

Classes take place at the Cubberley Community Center:4000 Middlefield Road, Studio #U1, Palo Alto, CA 94306

Does my child need any prior experience in animation?

Not at all! We cater to beginners and experienced young artists alike. Our instructors guide students step by step, ensuring everyone can learn and have fun at their own pace.

What is the registration process?

1. Pay the class fee.
2. You’ll receive a form to fill out your child’s information.
3. Once the form is complete, your registration is confirmed.
4. You’ll get a confirmation email with details about the first class and other essential information.
Your privacy is important to us. We never share or sell personal information for any reason.

Is the class safe for children?

Yes. Our classroom is located within the Cubberley Community campus, and our instructors each have over 10 years of experience teaching art and film to students of all ages.

May I stay in the classroom while my child is there?

Absolutely! You’re welcome to stay inside or just outside the classroom. We keep the doors open during the session.

How can I see my child’s work?

We will share a Google Drive folder with you. Each week, you can view your child’s animations and track their progress.

Is there a ceremony at the end of the course?

Yes! At the end of the semester, we hold a screening event where students showcase their stop-motion animations for family and friends—an exciting celebration of their hard work and creativity.
